Do You Believe in Coincidences? A Reflection on Divine Timing and Healing

May 26, 2021

I have a question: Do you believe in coincidences?

I don’t.

I believe the answers to my silent inquiries are introduced and answered by divine intervention. No matter how slight or small the presentation, when I pay attention to the details and the timing, the answers effortlessly rearrange or realign my course. Here are a few subtle situations I experienced within the past 24 hours—you be the judge.

Example 1: Not-So-Subtle Signs

Upon my return from Belize, I received a cancellation of my transit flight to Missouri. Due to weather, I stayed the night in Houston, Texas, and arrived at George Bush Intercontinental Airport six hours early the following day. Might I also note it was my first time visiting the airport. Since I hadn’t eaten I wanted to treat my Self to lunch at a restaurant unavailable for dining in Missouri. At a loss for its name, all I knew is I wanted to indulge at a place called Papa-something.

Moments into trying to recall the eatery, a woman that didn’t speak English approached me with her boarding pass in hand motioning for directions to Gate E10. Considering the time, it was fitting for me to walk her to her destination. As we strolled along for 10 minutes from Terminal C to E, there was a sign for the restaurant, Papadeaux. Immediately following her confirmed check-in, I made my way to stuff my face with a marvelous meal and thanked God for the assist from the strangerNot convinced?

Finally found it!

I got my grub on.

I gotta have cheesecake!

Example 2: A Dead Battery and a Living Message

After a safe flight home, I made my way to the airport garage. Needless to say, my vehicle’s battery died. I reached out for assistance and was well on my way home in approximately 30 minutes. Out of habit, I pulled into the driveway and turned off the car. (I know, I know … no bueno). I spoke with my kinfolk of safe arrival and made a mental note to get another jump start in the morning. So I did just that and assistance arrived without skipping a beat.

As they charged up my vehicle, the professional noted my battery showed corrosion which served as a sure sign of necessary replacement. We revved up the car and I headed to the nearest store to purchase a new battery with installation service. With the energy source replaced, my vehicle ran like new.

Releasing the Corrosion: What My Trip to San Pedro Taught Me

This morning’s situation forced me to recall the purpose behind my recent trip to San Pedro. The corrosion of my insecurities, outdated and/or out of season friendships, and weariness from misplaced love were released on a dock by the sea — eventually. Though my intent was to heal for the duration of the six day trip, healing happened two days prior to departure. The very moment I chose to cry, accept, and embrace their purpose, no matter how unpleasant the experience, I was renewed on the other side of it by The Creator.

All smiles.

The next day I cracked open the door of trust to others, rode on the back of a motorcycle for several hours with a phenomenal woman from the island, took photos of exotic plants, breathed in the beauty of walking in rain, and embraced a new season of my life with open arms.

One of the photos I took while exploring the friendly streets of Belize.

Still not convinced? I’ll save Example 3 for another day.

In the meantime, how has God shown up in your life in the past 24 hours?

Until we chat again … Joyous Journey.
