Dear God: A Year-End Letter of Renewal in Recovery
Dec 27, 2022Dear God:
The end of the year has crept upon us, and most people embark on resolutions and promises for the upcoming new year.
While I believe in the importance of becoming, I also realize I must remain realistic with my aspirations. Why not strive for these personal empowerments and affirmations in the present?
Recovery has taught me to challenge conventional thinking and ask, “Why not strive to be my best Self as each day passes? Why conform or restrict my progress to a new year? Why not navigate the present day to meet such aspirations?” These are just a few inquiries derived from a different place. As You know, there was a point in time that I did not — could not — envision my life after a certain age.
As I’ve grown in sobriety, I have also grown in planning and analyzing. Sometimes, this calculated mindset strips me from taking a deep breath, pausing, and enjoying the rose petals placed before me. In turn, accomplishments and unforeseen victories are overlooked. Needless to say, I’m still learning and growing in this department — and many others.
Simply put, living day-to-day saved/saves my life.
Thank You for a new day to celebrate.
Love,
Elora
